Events

There are many events here around, anytime in the year, from those related to tradition to religious ones, from cultural to musical ones, to no less important food and wine events. Here are some of them

  • Girotonno: an important gastronomic International event with music shows and street food takes place in Carloforte (San Pietro island), usually in May / June, simultaneously with the passage of tuna fishes in our seas
  • Calici di stelle: takes place in August in Sant’Antioco (usually near the St. Lorenzo night with the falling stars) to taste the best local wines, you can also discover the stars with a telescope
  • Religious events (first of all the patron of Sant’Antioco Festivals, 15 days after Easter and on August, the 1st, with a parade of traditional costumes, carts, horses, the statue of the saint carried in procession)
  • Holy week in Iglesias, on Easter time
  • The Festa Manna in Tratalias, a big festival, in the week that includes Ascension Sunday in honor of the Holy Virgin of Monserrato: processions and traditional clothes
  • Food and handicrafts Festivals throughout the territory, throughout the year, usually related to excellent food and wine products (from artichokes, saffron, traditional bread, stuffed pasta, roasts, honey, mushrooms, excellent wines, especially the famous Carignano) and local handycraft
  • Jazz and blues festivals, musical concerts in various cities, the bests at Arena Fenicia in Sant’Antioco
  • Open Museums, usually in May, free-entry for all
  • On the shoulders of the Giants: some professional telescopies to look at the stars, while enjoying local foods, drinks and cakes, at Carolina ranch place
  • Sant’Antioco abbraccia il mare: organized by the association of the same name, usually held in August or September, a procession of boats (free participation) sailing to Vacca  island to commemorate the great antiochense sculptor Gianni Salidu, paying homage to a statue he carved and now placed on the bottom of the sea
  • Flowered balconies: in spring a competition involves inhabitants and traders for the most beautiful flower arragement, and Sant’Antioco blooms with colours
  • Tuesday morning street market (not only fruit, vegetables, local cheeses but bric a brac and handicraft products), in piazza Pertini, Sant’Antioco
